Provision Restaurant Is Indy’s Can’t-Miss Spot This Summer

Posted on May 21, 2023 by Rebekah

As you probably know by now, I’m always on the lookout for great restaurants and bars to share with you. I often find myself at The Fashion Mall in Indianapolis and, if you know this part of town, you’ve probably seen Provision restaurant attached to Ironworks Hotel.

The establishment’s second-story deck has caught my eye for quite some time — it has all the makings of a perfect cocktail-sipping spot — but I’d never had the chance to step inside until last week.

Everything about Provision screams “quiet luxury,” from the plush carpets to the knowledgeable waitstaff.

From the moment I walked in the door, I was impressed with the level of service the restaurant provides. Provision could easily hold its own in a competitive food city like New York or London, and it certainly elevates the local food scene in the Indianapolis area.

We began by perusing the summer cocktail menu. There are so many options that sound delicious but I landed on the “Diamond In the Rough” (where are my Aladdin fans?) This tropical drink took me straight back to Hawaii.

My husband tried the “Summer Breeze,” a bourbon-based concoction that was also a fantastic choice.

In addition to its craft cocktails, Provision offers an incredible selection of wine options. Your server will be more than happy to provide beverage recommendations upon request.

True to its upscale foundation, all Provision visitors are given an amuse-bouche at the start of their dining experience. During our visit, we were offered a delicious whipped honey-ricotta.

I also ordered the bread basket, which features multiple options, including pretzel rolls, cereal bread, baguette, and Provision’s popular house dipping sauce.

We sampled three entrée options, though every main course on the summer menu would be worth trying.

I selected the snapper with mango salsa and coconut rice. It was among the best dishes I’ve ever had — the coconut flavor in the rice added just the right amount of sweetness to the dish.

My husband, true to form, opted to try two different cuts of steak, both of which are pictured below.

The New York strip (complete with the best mashed potatoes either of us have ever eaten):

The filet mignon:

We also saved room for dessert. Our fabulous server recommended the donut holes, which were inspired by a former pastry chef’s beloved family recipe.

The dish is the perfect combination of sweet and savory, with an unexpected hint of bacon in the maple cream. You will absolutely not regret ordering these donuts. I am not a big fan of sweets, generally, and I will order this dessert every time I visit Provision.

Whether you’re an Indy local or you find yourself traveling to the Circle City, this north-side gem is a must-visit all summer long.

P.S. I can finally confirm that the deck is 10/10 the perfect place to sip a cocktail.
