Less than a year ago, the Newport Beach Marriott was reinvented as VEA Newport Beach, a Marriott Resort & Spa.
The transformation the property has undergone is astounding, transitioning from a conventional choice for families and business travelers into a world-class establishment with amenities on par with much pricier hotels. From the moment you step into VEA, you’re immersed in Southern California cool.
The Dining
The lobby is open and airy, leading to an absolutely stunning pool area — my favorite part of the property! — through a bar that gives off subtle Old Hollywood vibes.
Whether you’re looking for a place to watch the World Cup or the NFL, or just to grab a cocktail after a long day of meetings, VEA’s VIEW Restaurant & Lounge is a great spot to unwind.
Open from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. daily, VIEW is described as a place for “savoring the here and now,” and it really is a great spot to forget the stresses of everyday life.
One of my favorite activities during my stay was grabbing a mimosa from VIEW or a coffee from VEA’s European-inspired Elan Cafe & Bar, then enjoying it on the lanai.
There’s also a third dining option, the poolside Edge Bar. This location was closed for most of my stay but I can’t wait to check it out during the summer months!
The Guest Rooms
The grounds are expansive, with several different guest room buildings available. During our recent stay, we were on the 16th floor of the Sky Tower with a view that is definitely worth writing home (or posting on the internet) about.
I couldn’t have been more impressed with the space. Overall, the vibe of VEA’s guest rooms is pure SoCal — think perfectly curated Huntington Beach surf shack meets Malibu mansion. With neutral, yet unabashedly bold, furnishings, you’ll relish waking up every morning — made even better if you’re able to snag a Pacific Ocean view!
Pro tip: Peek in the closet for the cutest spare flip-flops.
Each room even has a Vegas-worthy feature — a sliding shower wall that reveals a cheeky hidden window.
The Area
VEA is an unexpected respite in the heart of Newport Beach. You almost feel as though you’ve been transported a few hours further south to a Hawaiian resort.
Yet, it’s within easy walking distance of all that Newport Beach has to offer, including Fashion Island’s shops and restaurants, like Nordstrom, CUCINA enoteca, and much more.
Furthermore, you’re within an easy five minute drive of the beach and great local spots like Wild Taco.
I can’t wait to visit VEA Newport Beach again, and I hope you’ll enjoy all the hotel and spa have to offer during your next stay in Orange County.
‘Til next time, Room 1600!
What are you most looking forward to experiencing at VEA?
