If you’re anything like me, you spent your childhood dressing up as an adventurous Princess who explored enchanted forests every day and went home to a fabulously-decorated palace at night. But we all know that’s not real life — at least until you visit The Cake Bake Shop in Indianapolis.
We most recently visited the Carmel City Center location. Indianapolis locals and travelers can also enjoy the Broad Ripple Village shop, which is equally magical.
Created by Gwendolyn Rogers, the storybook bakery is straight out of Rodgers and Hammerstein. You almost expect Prince Charming to come sweep you away, at least until midnight, from the moment you walk through the French doors.
When we visited in early November, we were delighted to discover that the fairytale bakery was already adorned for Christmas — I don’t know if my daughters or I were more excited!
I don’t hesitate to say that The Cake Bake Shop is the single best location for girls’ day out in the Indianapolis area.
Either location offers a whimsical experience that will transport you into another world for a couple of hours while you sip glitter-embellished cappuccinos (!), and dine on some of the most delicious food and desserts you’ve ever been served.
While most people familiar with Gwendolyn’s vision for The Cake Bake Shop already know about the brand’s signature melt-in-your-mouth cakes, fewer people realize that the establishment is a full-service restaurant, as well!
Our party of five — myself, my best friend, my sister, and both of my daughters — enjoyed coffee, lunch, and dessert on our most recent excursion. Between us, we tried several dishes, including leek pasta, a Caesar salad with salmon, and the Sunday soup du jour.
My 3-year-old also devoured the French fries (you’ll see one peeking out of corner below!)
You can view the full Carmel location menu here.
While waiting on dessert, we couldn’t resist taking photos in the adorable swan sleigh The Cake Bake Shop has set up for the holiday season. If you’re looking to save money on Christmas card photos this year, you could actually take the perfect picture of your family at this elegant photo spot.
Even the candids of my daughters turned out well — and if you’re a mom, you know what a win that is. The girls wanted to take the swan home with us, as you can see from their smiles.
As for dessert, my sister and I both ordered the champagne raspberry cake, while my friend enjoyed the seasonal pumpkin chocolate cake. Both options were as incredible as expected.
Plus, each slice is topped with more edible glitter, which is my personal favorite detail!
I cannot recommend an Indy-area day out at The Cake Bake Shop enough! It’s our go-to when we’re craving a fairytale escape, and I know you’ll love this magical restaurant as much as we do.
What’s Next For The Cake Bake Shop?
As you probably know, my love for Disney Parks knows no bounds, so you can imagine how thrilled I am that The Cake Bake Shop’s next location will be at Walt Disney World Resort’s BoardWalk.
The official announcement shares the following details:
Waterside strolls will be extra special with storybook sweet treats and dreamy desserts at The Cake Bake Shop by Gwendolyn Rogers, a new table service restaurant and bakery that’s sure to delight. Expected to open in 2023, this restaurant will offer both savory and dessert menus, along with afternoon tea service, in a whimsical atmosphere that complements the magic of the idyllic charm of Disney’s BoardWalk that guests know and love.
