I grew up going to Walt Disney World Resort and now I love to take my girls as often as I can. Since life isn’t a permanent vacation, though, and I want them to experience destinations outside of Magic Kingdom, too, we don’t always make it to Lake Buena Vista as often as we’d like.
One of my girls’ favorite things about the Parks is Mickey Mouse-shaped food. Mickey waffles, Mickey pancakes, and Mickey soft pretzels are all staples of our Disney World vacations.
Imagine their delight when we discovered that a local restaurant serves Mickey Mouse pancakes that are even bigger than Disney World’s.
Enter The Roost Nora. Originally a Fishers brunch favorite, the Nora location is open 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. daily serving up a variety of egg and omelet selections, pancakes, biscuits and gravy, soups, salads, and signature sandwiches.
As you can see [above] the highlight for Disney kids (and Disney kids at heart) is Mickey pancakes as big as a plate. My daughters loved this special surprise.
Although our waiter said all kids’ orders generally come in this shape, I recommend double-checking when you place your order.
In addition to two orders of Mickey Mouse pancakes, our party ordered a custom omelet [above] and Eggs Florentine [below]. Everything was delicious and the portions are large, so you definitely won’t leave hungry.
We also loved the coffee selection. Aside from the Mickey pancakes, this is one of the things that sets The Roost apart, in my opinion. We tried three beverage options.
First up was a coffee cake-flavored drink served alongside a piece of coffee cake.
Next was my choice, incredible coconut-flavored coffee with coconut flakes on the rim.
Pro tip: Drink like a caffeinated margarita.
Finally, both of my girls ordered hot chocolate, which was presented with loads of whipped cream and chocolate drizzle. Needless to say, they were impressed.
The overall vibe at The Roost’s Nora location is industrial-meets-hippie. There are plants in macrame hangers juxtaposed with open piping on the ceiling. It’s a chill, low-key spot to meet friends or family for weekend brunch.
Since we’re all about cocktails here, I would be remiss if I didn’t note that the restaurant also has a bar so you can enjoy a Bloody Mary, a mimosa, or even a beer made by The Roost’s next-door-neighbor, Big Lug Canteen.
And, best of all for Disney fans, the magic continues in the restaurant’s vestibule where Roost diners are greeted by a statue of Moana’s sidekick, Hei Hei the Rooster.
We thoroughly enjoyed this little dose of Disney magic in Indianapolis, and I have no doubt that you will too!
