“Take a Seat In History” at The Fountain Room Supper Club

Posted on January 9, 2023 by Rebekah

There’s nothing I love more than a night out, except maybe a night out that makes me feel like I’ve magically traveled back 100 years to the 1920s.

Fortunately, thanks to the wildly under-appreciated Art Deco scene in Indianapolis, there’s no shortage of fabulous options when you’re craving a vintage-inspired evening on the town in Central Indiana.

One of the newest players in town is The Fountain Room, a restaurant inspired by the Roaring Twenties supper club scene on Massachusetts Avenue. It’s no secret that the Bottleworks District is one of my go-to neighborhoods, and The Fountain Room is an ideal addition to this thriving area.

From the moment you walk in the door, you’ll find yourself transported to a more elegant age. The bar area even plays classic movies to help keep patrons in the right mood.

We started with drinks, a classic Old Fashioned for my husband and the restaurant’s Miss Daisy signature cocktail for me.

Crafted with Herradura Silver Tequila, Grand Marnier, St. Germain, and lemon — and garnished with an edible flower — the refreshing drink somehow evades pretentiousness while still making you feel like you should be adventuring with Cary Grant in To Catch a Thief.

Our server also recommended the lobster bisque, and it was among the best bowls of soup I’ve ever had.

It has a spicy kick that sets it apart from most recipes — I was warned it has sold out more than once so call ahead if ordering it is a priority for you!

As for the entrees, my husband tried the Filet Mignon with beef au jus [below] and I ordered the Ora King Salmon.

Both were delicious — the pistachio crust on my salmon [below] was literally mouthwatering, so I highly recommend this dish.

The menu is extensive and there’s something for everyone. I already have the Sesame Tuna on tap for my next dinner at The Fountain Room.

In addition to dinner, The Fountain Room has an extensive dessert menu and weekend brunch service.

I can’t wait to try brunch soon, and I hope next time you find yourself in the Circle City, you reserve a table at the coolest supper club in town.

More on The Fountain Room

The official description of Indy’s everything-old-is-new-again venue reads:

100 years ago, The Fountain Room was the site of the largest Coca-Cola bottling plant in the world. A soda stream pumping out 2.25 million bottles every week. And just as the cola bottle was known for its unique shape, the architecture of the building itself became an icon. With its Art Deco styling and shiny, white exterior, Bottleworks was a knock out. From its ornate brass doors to the shiny terrazzo floors and colorful ceramic tiles, this building was designed to be a showplace—rivaling the finest buildings in all the land. Today, our dining room pays tribute to the grandeur of the historic Bottleworks District, and is inspired by Mass Avenue’s infamous supper club scene. We cordially invite you to take a seat in history.
